The Miano Advisory will start the 2010-2011 school year with service learning for Team Boomer. The Boomer Esiason foundation helps raise awareness & money for Cystic Fibrosis. Our class will be raising awareness throughout the school community and raising donations to help the cause. Mr. Miano will be running the NYC Marathon as a member of the Team Boomer Racing team.

Result - Our class raised $150 in a month selling awareness bracelets! Mr. Miano ran the marathon in 3:44

Our class will begin our service learning portion of advisory, by partnering with the Embrace For Kids Foundation. Students will come to an understanding of the cause, raise awareness and money for the issue. The project ends with Mr. Miano running The Sprink Lake 5 Mile Race for "Team Embrace"!

Result - Our class raised $300  selling awareness bracelets! Mr. Miano ran the race in under 39 minutes.

Kicking off the new school year (2011-2012), The Miano Advisory will begin service learning efforts for the I-Will Foundation. This activity will be the culmination of our class reading The Long Run, by Matt Long - a NYC Firefighter who was tragically hit by a bus during the MTA Transit Strike and not only survived, but fought back through numerous operations and rehabilitation to not only run the NYC Marathon again, but to complete the Lake Placid Ironman race!
